We are a secondery school and need to remove search from windows 7 start menu. pupils can type c$ into it and access the shorcuts for all the programs on the c drive including mstsc and powershell. I have already enabled the GPO setting Remove Search Link form Start menu and confirmed it is being applied and changed the Registry key NoFind as it should but the search box is still there. If you try this in the windows explorer search box it only finds their own items. The pupils desktop is locked down so they can only get the required shortcuts in their start menu but this bypasses it so its one we need to get sorted. Looking forward to the 2nd meeting the first was really useful and freebies are always good!! This is the only time we get to mix with other education Network Managers who understand the constraints we have in an education environment. Recommend it to anyone who can get to the venue.

I cant see a way of not installing Bridge - we use AAMEE to build the package (the only place bridge is shown is in the updates) and then deploy. I must be missing something!! At the moment I am blocking Bridge but if we could install without it I would prefer it.

I am probably missing something but need a fix for this. We are running Adobe CS5 Web Premium. Pupils can access the entire c drive through bridge by clicking on computer and typing c:\. Is there a way to block this or use Illustrator and Photoshop without Bridge? I'm just rebuilding the package without Bridge to test but thought Id post before everyone goes home!!

We dont have the ISO as the LA bods came in and did it with their scripted install disks, we dont get left anything - our SIMs support is covered by them so I have emailed them for an update and am waiting for a reply

Thanks - the SIMs server is an LA setup (the only thing that is ) so I will get onto them about getting up to date!

Hmmm wonder whats different, our clients are windows 7 64bit installed via MDT with all apps and then SIMs is installed manually (hence it being on my list to do silently!!). Using simsinst.exe invokes the install, install barcode fonts and then hangs trying to instal reader 9.2 ... if 9.3 is on it carries on as it should, if X or over is on nada

I was going to ask how you installed SIMs but have seen Vikpaws reply below... do you run the individual installers as a script?

Hi The SIMs installer does not recognise versions of Adobe Reader later that 9.x, If Adobe reader X or XI is installed the pre-requisite installer hangs trying to install 9.2. If we install 9.3 install SIMs then uninstall 9.3 and install XI (via GPO) SIMs opens pdfs in XI with no issues. This is not too bad with new build machines as MDT takes care of the install of 9.3 and the GPO takes care of getting rid of it, but if SIMs needs to be re-installed on an existing machine 9.3 has to be re-installed to get past the pre-requisite installer which is obviously far more of an issue. Is there any way of getting past the pre-requisite for 9.2 or making the installer recognise that adobe X or later is installed? Also I assume that SIMs updates do not look for 9.2 as a pre-requisite but can anyone confirm this? TIA for any help

Its the local C drive they can see not the server C drive so that is something I suppose

Hi I have put Scratch 1.4 on a shared drive and edited the scratch.ini to show only drives U and S but the C drive is still visable. Everything is locked down but we dont want pupils browsing the C drive. Also when opening Scratch on the user machine it always asks for the image file even though it is in the install dir (standard install apart from location) on the shared drive. I have locked on the Scratch forums and searched here but the only reference I can find is adding VisibleDrives to the ini file. TIA

Has anybody got ActiveTeach to work properly on TS Remote Apps? The sound player opens but nothing happens when the play button is clicked and the bar doesnt move. I emailed their Tech Support but their only answer is they dont support their applications on TS

Hi We have had this on Vista and Win 7 and logging on as domain admin (not best practice I know but runas doesnt work either) to install SIMS seems to work, once the install is completed there are no more issues. It seems completely random as to whether we have to do this or whether the install runs under our usual login. HTH

HI I am installing Sims onto a win 7 machine (I know its not supported by Capita yet) and even though the short date format is set to dd/MM/yyyy and the time is set to HH:mm:ss I get 2 error messages when trying to install sims saying the short date is M/d/yyyy and the time is h:mm:ss AMPM I have checked all formats and regional settings and they are all correct and united Kingdom. I successfully installed sims on the win 7 RC and I have seen this fault on vista but cant for the life of me remember what we did to resolve it. I have searched the forums and capita support and googled but have been unable to find any reference to this error. Help!! EDIT Problem solved - even though everything was showing crrectly I reset the time and date using the reset to default settins in advanced regional settings and although nothing appeared to change the install is now running!
