Scratch 2 desktop version 4.6.1 msi required

Ive found a 4.5.4 Msi installer but when user runs scratch it wants to install the 4.6.1 version immediately and it fails as students and general staff cant update the fixed pushed out central desktop.

 

Ive searched but cant find a msi installer for the latest version 4.6.1. is there any kind sole who could create one for me please.

 

Only reason we are having to do a client install is because of the online one got updated in January and no longer supports Internet explorer and we are not migrating to Windows ten for some months and we dont want to have to install Chrome on each machine as we are currently not allowing curriculum machines to have it as limited control.

You have a few things to choose here.

 

First, and perhaps more in keeping with what you're asking, is to download the EXE from the normal location HERE

Then open that EXE with 7zip and you'll see the MSI within a subfolder, plus it's associated content.

 

I personally would not be so concerned with the lack of support of IE, in fact I kind of welcome it. Chrome, or Firefox, et al, is perfectly capable of running Scratch online.

 

To resolve the issue of the forced downloading the updated version, you'll need to modify the application.xml file (found in META-INF\AIR\application.xml)

Change the versionNumber tag to 999, which overrules even the most recent version number being offered...

The above can be achieved through Group Policy.

Ive now tried this and both local install and a push install (via PDQ) of setup.msi shows successful and shows up in the add/remove programs but when you click on the icon shortcut I get an error "initial content could not be loaded for this application. try re-installing or contacting the publisher for assistance.

 

It actually puts all the various folders and files in the root of C:\

 

I extracted exactly as you said with 7zip and only amended the application.xml versionnumber tag to 999

You're quite right, Dave, my apologies. I should have tried it myself before suggesting that.

I'm just seeing if I can pass set a targetdir property of the extracted MSI.

Stick with the exe file, and also grab yourself the latest Adobe Air - Scratch depends on this being installed first

https://airdownload.adobe.com/air/win/download/32.0/AdobeAIRInstaller.exe

 

Then, with both your exe's and the modified application.xml all in the same folder, deploy this through PDQ using a batch like this.

Thanks I really should check edugeek a bit quicker so thanks for your prompt response.

 

I will try this as soon as half-term over and jsut to note the latest Adobe Air is automatically pushed out and updated via the PDQ enterprise package installer etc we subscribe to.
