Windows Server Backup errors.

Hi All,

 

It seems our server is having a couple of issues with backing up lately.

 

Firstly:

 

Since implementing a FSRM File Screen on our server, the backup has been producing an error. Although it says completed there is a file that fails.

 

Error in backup of D:\System Volume Information\SRM\datascrn.md during write: Error [0x80070020] The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process.

 

Through a bit of Googling, it seems it is related to the File Screen, but I haven't managed to find a way to stop the error and I don't want to just turn off the file screen. There are File Screens set up on all the drives, I'm not sure why it only has a problem with this one (only difference is this is the SIMS drive). Anybody else seeing this?

 

Secondly:

 

The backups have failed twice in the last couple of days, due to an error in the USN journal.

 

 

There has been quite a bit of change recently, with a lot of files being moved and deleted (Google suggests that maybe the change journal has reached it's maximum size). How would I go about rectifying this?

Not seen it, but recommend plugging in a USB drive if you have one big enough, and trying to do a manual backup to that.

Could you temporarily change your quota to soft and see if that fixes it? You might have to change the quota on the area it is staging the backup

Unfortunately, this is a very small Junior School, they backup to 2 x 1TB USB drives (swapped daily) already. If I can find one, I'll bring it in and try a manual back-up in the half-term.

Yeah, I saw while searching Google that a similar problem happens to drives with a quota. This drive doesn't have a quota though, but it is set up with a File Screen (to help try and stop Crypto nasties). Maybe I should turn the File Screen off overnight whilst the backup runs...?
