I have purchased some Remote Desktop Services CALs from a our LA and thought the key would be similar to a windows key ie, xxxx xxxx xxxx xxxx xxxx but the license I have been given is xxxxxxx is that correct before I proceed?
tmcd35 Posted February 12, 2013 Posted February 12, 2013 Last time I had to activate a terminal server I had to put in my Microsoft customer agreement number (actually it was the LEA's customer agreement number at the time) and then declare the number of licenses I'd purchased. You can usually find it on any Volume License Invoice. From memory it is a short number in the form xxxxxxx.

Do you have any other info I can follow, the MS site is overly complicated.
tmcd35 Posted February 12, 2013 Posted February 12, 2013 Follow the instructions on that site. On the "Activate Server Wizard" screenshot you should see a pull down for "licence Program". In the example it is showing "Licence Pack (Retail Purchase)". Change this to Volume Licensing and it will ask for your Agreement Number.

tmcd35 Posted February 12, 2013 Posted February 12, 2013 All the options listed are different types of Volume Licence, other than the first. In most instances it's probably either Open License or Select License - the later being the more popular. It should say on your Invoice or Licence certificate which type it is. If not speak to whomever you bought the licenses from, they should know which type of agreement it was.

tmcd35 Posted February 12, 2013 Posted February 12, 2013 Typically, if I remember this correctly, you use user licensing if you have more devices than potential concurrent users, and device licensing if you have more users than available devices. 9/10 in a school I'm guessing device licensing is the way to go. It's what I've always used in the past.

(probably not but hay ho) Installing Sims, should I, Click 'install app on terminal server' in control panel and let it do a full install including dependencies like .net, adobe or install the dependencies first and then click 'install app on terminal server' Does it make a difference?

Install newest versions of Adobe, Office and do their updates. The run your SIMs install as normal from SIMsInst is what I do.

edutech4schools Posted February 14, 2013 Author Posted February 14, 2013 What encryption level do I choose between FIPS or High? When searching, most posts say you should enable FIPS or High but do not pick one over the other. All clients are 7 pro and I have TLS set as the security layer.
