Protection in Word 2010

Trying to protect a file, (application form) which has areas to write in and check boxes. All ok, set the areas up etc. Used the check boxes from the control toolbar.

 

All fine and dandy. Works in protected mode etc.

 

Until I save it as compatible to Office 2003. GRRR - the check boxes won't work.

When I use the legacy ones, I can't tick them.

 

It is getting late on a Friday, and I am getting really tired of looking at it now to be fair - may come back on Monday to battle it out!
