WIndows 8 Policies

Good Morning Everyone,

 

Does anybody have any experience of using Windows 8 in a primary school IT suite ???

 

I am wondering how it reacts to restriction policies from a 2008 server ??? is Server 2008

capable of doing the restrictions or does it need an admx update etc ???

 

How are primary school coping with Windows 8 do young children struggle with it or is it the way to go,

we currently have a suite of out of warranty Dell pc's running xp sp3 and wish to replace them all.

 

While Windows 7 would be an upgrade I was contemplating missing this out all together and going to Windows 8.

 

Any advice would be helpfull.

This is something we've looked at for one of my primaries and decided against. You'd need server 2012 to fully manage 8 properly however with the foibles of TIFKAM and training involved in missing the start menu, we decided to plump for 7 instead. For someone moving from XP to 7 they can learn about the jumplists and searching in the start menu as an option rather than being forced into something so different. Plus, 7 has had good exposure now and any foibles are well documented and easily circumvented if need be.

I did wonder about that, and with the tile system that Windows 8 offers as you say may be a bit confusing for the staff

ive got it running on 1 touchscreen pc in foundaition stage and the teachers are now asking to get it on the rest of the touchscreens down there much to my surprise (esp as charm bar etc is a pain as screen isnt edge to edge there a lip) so far it does work but managing it is a pita (08r2 server) and im not convinced that when i do another pc i suspect it will look different and ive not looked into apps
