RabbieBurns Posted January 24, 2013 Posted January 24, 2013 We are about to be bought 100+ Wintel slates and ultrabooks, none of which have ethernet ports. Im struggling to come up with ways to figure out how to use SCCM and PXE to image these devices... Is there a USB to Ethernet device that will allow PXE booting with SCCM ?
Arthur Posted January 24, 2013 Posted January 24, 2013 Is there a USB to Ethernet device that will allow PXE booting with SCCM? I haven't used it myself, but Lenovo make an adapter that apparently supports PXE booting (P/N: 0A36322). 1
SYNACK Posted January 24, 2013 Posted January 24, 2013 Does SCCM support remote deployment media like MDT. You may be able to chuck the deployment share stuff on a USB key for the initial build and do it that way.

Just what I was about to suggest - it does support SCCM boot Media - Not tried it , but if its like 2007 then it will allow you to create a DVD or a USB media...
synaesthesia Posted January 24, 2013 Posted January 24, 2013 Yeah, 2012 allows builds from USB media. Works rather well and quickly, we do it as a backup for those odd few machines that just won't build otherwise.
free780 Posted January 24, 2013 Posted January 24, 2013 Either that or stick the client on windows that's on the ultrabooks and deploy the os .
RabbieBurns Posted January 24, 2013 Author Posted January 24, 2013 Either that or stick the client on windows that's on the ultrabooks and deploy the os . wouldnt that involve joining them to the domain etc or can the client be installed straight out the box? and even to starter edition etc? Booting from USB is an option but is a bit tedious having to do it 100 times.
Tall_Paul Posted March 1, 2013 Posted March 1, 2013 (edited) I'd be interested to know if anyone has managed to resolve this. Having played with my wife's XPS12 this was my first question. EDIT - having done a bit more research someone managed it with a USB ethernet adaptor and booting from a DVD. The thought of doing this for a class of 32 fills me with dread!
