timbo343 Posted January 18, 2013 Posted January 18, 2013 I am in the process of creating email addresses for students which will be hosted offsite with office365. Am i right in thinking that if staff want distribution groups created for students for ease of emailing, i need to create contacts on my exchange server, link the SMTP email address of all the students and create address policies too for the students? If so, its going to be a mamonth task. I have also read that office365 doesn't offer address book polices? is this correct? What do others do who have given students email address this way? Do you allow students to see each other in the GAL? Thanks
cscott Posted January 19, 2013 Posted January 19, 2013 We use Googlemail for students, different product obviously but concepts and issues similiar. Easiest route we found was to create a subdomain in DNS for students i.e. [email protected] whilst staff are all under [email protected] got round a lot of problems with address books etc...
timbo343 Posted January 21, 2013 Author Posted January 21, 2013 That is what i have got. We have got a @domain.co.uk address for staff which points to an exchange server and @students.domain.co.uk which is hosted via Office365.
cscott Posted January 21, 2013 Posted January 21, 2013 we haven't bothered to create contacts for the students, most staff use our VLE (Moodle), when they need to send e-mails students, also lets them send SMS messages as we found most students never bother to check their college account!
