Users logging each other off

Users are locking thier workstations during lunch but some people are going into classes and logging them off because they want to use the classboard for a club.

 

How do I stop this and only set it to administrators?

 

On windows server 2003 with XP clients.

I thought it was by default that only administrators or the actual logged on user could unlock a machine? Do you have students/staff set as admins by mistake?

 

Not that it really matters (as I have found out). All they need to do is power the machine off and turn it on again - lock goes bye-bye

I'm assuming you've disabled Fast User Switching (FUS).

 

If so, not even Administrators can unlock the machine. This is a flaw in Windows.

 

Some Microsoft guy has developed a third party DLL replacement which allows an admin to unlock a machine with FUS disabled. It works very well and I've deployed the component through AD.

that may be the case... I didnt set up the network and it hasnt been a problem until a teacher lost work after popping out of the classroom for 10 minutes.

I think you may have done but its windows 7 so its irrelevant.

You could try employing something like:

Workstation Unlocker won't prevent what you have described but it will show the incoming user a message and a reason as to why they should not log off the current user.

 

Might be worth a try?
