iPod Troubles

Hopefully there is somebody here that could help me.

 

I have an iPod Classic that I have owned for a few years. Over about a year ago it threw up a problem where the sound coming out of it was crackly and distorted.

 

When the problem occurred I thought it was the headphone jack so replaced this but didn't cure the problem. The sound is also the same if I play it through a lead out of the bottom of the iPod into a AUX on a stereo.

 

After doing some Googling this leads me to believe that it is static build up in the logic board, if that sounds feasible? (Anyone with any past experience)? ... Does anybody know if it is possible to somehow dissipate this static build up??

 

I might sound silly, but just want my baby working again ... This is an 80GB, but Apple now only makes the 160GB which is £200 brand new ...

I would think earthing it? Do you charge it via a wall plug or computer only? Does the sound work on through docking station rather than 3.5mm output?

Cheers for the reply ... I have tried earthing it and it didn't make the slightest difference and it sounds the same which ever way I try.

Also ... since it's been broke I've only charged it via the computer .... do you think doing by the wall might help, as in earthing it I presume?

I have looked at my Apple uk mains adaptor and that has a metal top pin rather than plastic, so it's worth a try I guess. It cant make it any worse can it!

All the USB power supplies I have use a plastic earth pin, so wouldn't provide an earth to connected devices - sorry not to have anything more useful to offer...

 

Have you tried a complete factory reset and firmware update?

 

Or something like the Pure I-20 which has a built in DAC and takes the Digital out from the Apple connector rather than the audio? Just to try and isolate the problem.
