kuryakin Posted December 13, 2012 Posted December 13, 2012 Hi all Our SMT are looking at buying a set of mobile devices for the team to give them mobile access, I was curious as to which route other schools might have gone down. We will be looking at mainly text / email but also some remote accessibility so I feel the screen size will be critical in our decision making process. Regards Kury
Steve21 Posted December 13, 2012 Posted December 13, 2012 Well, depending on what you mean by "mobile access", but iPhone 5's for email/phone/text. Remote Desktop connections on laptop for work from home etc. Then there's always VLE etc for remote uploading if needed. Steve 1
kuryakin Posted December 13, 2012 Author Posted December 13, 2012 Hi Steve thanks for that. We have google apps for edu set up so that will deal with most of the work aspects but we also separately have an online access to our MIS and that is the area where I think screen size might be a bit more key if they want to spend time working on that. Regards Martin.

Regards Martin. If you're using Google Apps, and want screen size, then the Android-powered Samsung Galaxy Note II should - logically - be the perfect device. I am basing that assumption on logic, though, so could be wrong. Edited December 13, 2012 by sonofsanta link to review 1

Is this mobile as in "at home" though, or as in "walking around a field" If it's home access it seems little point trying to combine it into one device (ie. tablet) if you use laptops etc. If it's for "in a field" etc, then will getting larger devices become a hassle? synaesthesia Posted December 13, 2012 Posted December 13, 2012 what bloody budgets are you lot on? if you want to piddle away money, fine. Phone Text Email Most 10 year old nokias could tick all those boxes. Or you could pay a MAXIMUM of £100 for and spend the rest on a slapup Christmas meal. I think some people need to get a sense of reality! 1

synaesthesia Posted December 13, 2012 Posted December 13, 2012 No different to consumer contracts. I get more minutes/texts/data for under £12 a month than anyone I know paying £40. It's "only" a samsung galaxy but still...

I think some people need to get a sense of reality! If you take a look at Google apps you will find it has a lot more things than email, text, phone! Things like calendars,MIS access, spreadsheet access, wifi are all useful to senior teachers but not usable on sub £100 phones.
