Who else does laptop style thin clients?

From a manufacturers point of view, due to scales of volume/manufacturing etc - it is very hard (impossible?) to make one that offers a price advantage

against a cheap (PC) laptop, so not much motivation to develop in this direction...

 

The companies who maybe could - are not motivated either - as they will be the main laptop sellers - so not much motivation to canibalise their existing market

 

Maybe a generic Android tablet will offer a solution here ?

We wish to have a proper thin client not a tablet or a cheap laptop. We want thinclients. Laptops are a real pain when pushing software out to them. Edited March 4, 2013 by FN-GM

These are pretty awesome: Ultra-thin clients (Also... General Dynamics is too Close to Massive Dynamic not to be cool!!!)

 

Or HP make some: HP 4410t Mobile Thin Client Large Enterprise Business

 

Or you could use Chrome Books - Citrix Receiver has been available since day 1 and there is software available for RDP.

 

It probably comes down to money, time and what technology you want to use.

There's also the HP 4320T thin client laptop. I think it's a bit newer and more available than the 4410T.

We wish to have a proper thin client not a tablet or a cheap laptop. We want thinclients. Laptops are a real pain when pushing software out to them.

 

Far be it from me to downplay thin-clients - but I was meaning get a laptop and configure to run RDS (or whatever) on boot - so would be a TC to all intents and purposes, and no need to ever push software out to it.

 

Please keep us posted - it will be interesting to see how you get on with a dedicated laptop TC, especially costwise....

The device will still need Windows Updates or whatever. If its Windows it will need AV.
