We are thinking of starting a BYOD scheme, but we want to be able to allow them to run a virtual corporate image on their own machines.

I'm trying to get feeler for what is out there, that will let say 500 students pxe boot over wireless and boot either a mac or a pc laptop into a thin provisioned environment that we control, ie what backend infrastructure runs this.

We have full wireless coverage already. No budget constraints for this at the moment so what do the corporates use?

What we do: ( Launching In January )

SSID with a passphrase ( so that the traffic can be encrypted)

No Device can talk to any other divece ( to stop our wifi being a hub for pupils to share files, games, music.... Yada)

A captive portal that will only give them access to our VDI.

So all they can do is access the VDI.

They won't be able to pxe boot into an image you control over wifi.

Best you can do is to allow them to connect to the wifi from the main os windows, ios, android or whatever and then use a client to connect to a vdi backend.
