RM CC4 Network Changing Desktop Background

I tried to change the desktop background in the user policies in the RM Management Console, but the original RM image is specifying a local location to pick up the picture.

 

When a remote location is specified it doesnt appear to work, is it possible to make this work as i dont really want to go around each individual machine locally to add the new background picture.

Create an MSI to copy the new background to the local machine, and then set that path.

I have CC4 changing background from a network location, but I had to get RM to dial in and remove an orphaned setting that also had the desktop location in before it would hold.

Where on the network have you stored the image, RMPublic?

I have added the files to the RMPublic directory. The directory has been specified in the management console like this:

 

\\SERVERNAME\RMPublic\bg.bmp

 

I also tried making it work by specifying the drive letter to get to the location, however this did not work either.

 

Whatever i do, the default RM background is the only one that will show.

As I mentioned previously - you might need RM to remove an orphaned setting within the GPOs.

Could also be set in two places, the All Users registry policy, plus the individual policies (Standard, Staff etc.)

Make sure it is changed in both.

 

However, I always do this by deploying the wallpaper to the local hard disk first, either by batch file or MSI, so each user isn't pulling down a 10MB bitmap file each time they log on.
