Anyone else using websense webfilter?

 

 

we had an issue with our VLE getting blocked by one of our custom filters.

 

itslearning

 

it was not in out list of sites, so after getting it looked at by support it turns out that in a custom list a * wildcard is added to the start and end of the entry.

 

so we have

 

ning.com ( which is a blog site )

 

But websense will see that as

 

*ning.com*

 

so it will match itslearNING.COM

 

 

now imagine you have a custom allow for bbc.co.uk

 

that's actualy *bbc.co.uk*

 

so if someone registers

 

getpastschoolblockbbc.co.uk

 

and puts a proxy on it then it will allow them through!

 

 

Seems a bit insecure to me!
