[sims] Nova-T6 and SIMS.ini

Got a member of staff wanting to use Nova-T6 through our home access system (basically an RDP session) but logged in as one of them it tells me that it couldn't find the SNOVA folder. Works fine logged in as administrator but not as teacher.

 

Can anyone tell me what i can put into the sims.ini file in order to manually direct sims to the S:\SIMS\SNOVA folder?

 

Any other suggestions please fire away

Can they see and access the S drive. Maybe it's mapped as an administrator, so then run as admin on SIMS might work.

It's poss not that though as they'd struggle to login at all, unless you're connect.ini and sims.ini just have netbios names in instead of the S drive reference

You can also run novat stand alone and just transfer the data files.

Yep they can see the S:\ drive, the connect.ini is setup with just a "REDIRECT=S:\SIMS" line and the sims.ini i setup with various lines, one of which looks as though it relates to the nova program but nothing to do with pointing to the SNOVA folder within S:\SIMS

 

Attempting to run novat standalone gives the same error, doesn't give me the pop up box about data files, just comes up with "couldn't find the SNOVA folder" or something along those lines straight away.

Do they have permissions over the nova folders? I take it that user can login and use Nova fine whilst at school?

Yep, uses it fine in her office using all the same login credentials in school as she does remotely, I'll have too have a look through the TS Gateway servers settings though and make sure there's no strange security rights I've got applies that could be causing it.

just try browsing to it whilst connected through the rdp and see what happens.

Standalone comes with its own installer sims\setups\NovaSatelliteSetup.exe. Running that installs the installers (weird) and then the nova-t6 installer setups up the folder structure. You probably wouldn't want to install on a machine with Sims.net locally installed, but I don't know.

Just checked that, nothing.

 

Strangely enough, 2 users, both use the same mandatory profile and have the same access rights and loading the same group policies....one works, other doesn't. *HEAD BANG ON WALL*

 

User1 = logs in to system, logs in to sims, runs novat6 and it works!

User2 = logs in to system, logs in to sims, runs novat6 and fails

User1 = logs in to system, User2 logs in to sims, runs novat6 and it works!

 

Restarting the server because when all else fails, turn it off and on again....time to test again lol

EDIT: still no joy, same policies, profile, etc but for some reason one works and the other doesn't. Frustrating.

user 1 must have more rights some how. can user 2 do a run as admin on sims, or just browse to relevant folders whilst over the rdp.
