Windows 8 Blue Screen Of Death (BSOD) BAD_POOL_CALLER

I have been using windows 8 for the past week and have issues with BSOD appearing at random intervals and over the lat few days more frequently. After performing several rebuilds of the OS and carefully selecting Windows 8 supported applications i still continue to receive this error.

 

I have reviewed the minidump files and the cause of the issues seems to be with ntoskrnl.exe

 

I have contacted microsoft support and sony vaio support and they advise e to rebuild every time or restore the system to a previous working version. Unfortunately this does not resolve the issue and i find myself back at the beginning again.

 

Could anyone advise on this issue and how to resolve?

It smells of a RAM issue to be honest. If you hit start and type in "memory" it should show the windows testing tool. Run that and reboot and let it scan the memory a few times the ram being the issue.

Thanks for the quick reply, i have completed a full memory scan and after booting back into windows this reported no errors.

Completed a memory scan and after the scan competed i booted back into windows and reieved a message saying scan completed without any issues\errors.

 

Since i first came across this issue i have run a full factory reset from the recovery partition provided by sony. This restored although I continue to receive the error, my initial thoughts where that either there is an application not supported on windows 8 or there is an issue with the OS which is also present on the recovery image.

 

The windows 8 minidump file reports the following line at the end of the mile.

Probably caused by : ntoskrnl.exe ( nt+7a740 )

Thanks for this although Im not sure how to test for this as there are no diagnostics supplied for the HDD and there is a solidstate drive which homes the os!

 

One thing have found is that when accessing facebook immediately after logging in using firefox the BSOD appears with the above error, could this be related to flash or any other extensions used by face-book?

Sony and their classic 'quality', probably a bundled driver causing issues. Look for a GPU and Flash update, Flash attempts to use GPUs for acceleration and it not unknown for hosing it completely. You can try disabling GPU acceleration in Flash too or using IE10 which has built in flash and is less likely to chew the system. Chrome also has built in flash if you can stand it.

Hi Guys,

 

My initial thought was flash as after troubleshooting the issue mainly occurred when access websites using flash components within firefox which does not have built in flash.

 

Anyway at the moment Sony have decided to replace the ultrabook with a brand new one thus getting rid of any hardware issues and are investigating the BSOD which i believe is still on going. It will be interesting to see what happens when i get the replacement at the end of the week.
