Network Load Simulation

I've been looking into it but I cant find any suitable software / devices for stress testing a network.

 

I want to put my switches and routers on a test network under a heavy load to see whether it's possible to alter configurations etc reliably and to determine different effects of various introduced faults etc. Also to see wether my kit can handle it.

 

Does anyone know of any suitable software / hardware or something i could produce myself maybe with several network cards to connect to different points on the network then some way of creating load.

HI,

 

Not sure about the stress testing the network but this utility may be handy in troubleshooting network connections etc. You can do some testing by increasing the data size etc.
