Easy question... Please help?

An easy one.. but one i've never had to deal with.

 

I bought a PC on eBuyer for £150. Nothing great.

 

AMD A4 @ 2.8Ghz

2GB RAM

 

Since then ive given it 8GB RAM, new graphics card, new PSU even a new case, but its still stuck at an AMD A4.

 

I've checked the compatibilty list (MSI UK ? Mainboard - A55M-P33) and the best one i can find it an AMD Athlon x4 (AMD Athlon II X4 651K Black Edition 3GHz Socket FM1.. | Ebuyer.com).

 

My question is, will I have to re-install Windows if I do this? Or will Windows detect it as a new device and install it?

You shouldn't need to if that's the only part changing. I can't remember exactly what it uses, but there's a certain amount of parts that can be changed before Windows thinks it's a new computer (motherboard being one of the main ones).

 

Win7 is generally pretty good with swaps. (As always though, best to backup)

Thanks for that Steve, exactly as I thought.

 

I'm not too fussed if I do have to as all my data is on a NAS box, but would really rather avoid it!
