jmol and windows 7

On courses where jmol has been used, when the course is accessed using a IE on a Windows 7 machine, the molecular model displays perfectly, but below the model in bright yellow is the following error message:

 

You do not have Java applets enabled in your web browser, or your browser is blocking this applet. Check the warning message from your browser and/or enable Java applets in

your web browser preferences, or install the Java Runtime Environment from java.com: Java + You

 

Obviously we have java installed and applets have been enabled, otherwise the model wouldn't display. This does not occur on XP machines, just Windows 7. Using Firefox and Chrome, the model didn't display at all, just the error message. I upgraded Java to the latest version and Firefox and Chrome now work OK, but IE is stilll the same. Is there a method of turning off the annoying error message?

If we run IE9 using IE8 mode, the yellow error message isn't displayed. What a crock! I guess we'll just recommend the use of Firefox or Chrome.
