Smartboard Notebook Creative Pen Tool - not drawing any default styles

None of the default styles (Stars / faces, rainbow etc) appear when using the Creative Pen Tool (Notebook 10) - teacher just gets a black line. Cant find any settings to be able to switch this function off/on. Anyone with any ideas what the problem may be before I re-install. Thanks
