Richo Afico GX e3350N printer - paper sensor

We have a Richo Afico GX e3350N printer that came free from Probrand just over 2 years ago, it's had fairly light use and we recently purchased a new set of cartridges for it. However, it won't work now coming up with a message saying load paper tray or form feed the tray is full and it seems the 2sensor2 needs replacing.

 

Has anyone else who had one of these "freebies" experienced the same problem?

 

My suspicion is that it's going to cost more than the printer is worth to get it fixed but the annoying thing is we have just shelled out over £100 for new cartridges!
