WSUS server down. Need to point machines to MS using GPO. How?

WSUS deployed using GPO

 

Our WSUS server has gone pop and I need to point all machines back to MS.

 

How should I do this.

How long is the WSUS server going to be out of action? If you think you'll have it/another up and running in a week or so, I'm not sure that I'd bother.

Agree with the above, it will kill your internet!

You'll also have that sodding EU Browser Choice 'update' on all your machine before you know it, which might be an issue depending on your setup. If you're dead set on going down this route, make sure to deploy settings to block that update before modifying your Group Policy to remove the WSUS settings.

All that said, it's Computer Config > Policies > Windows Components > Windows Updates > Specify Intranet location = disabled, computers then revert to using MS update.

 

Probably less trouble in the long run to set up a new WSUS server or repair the broken one than it is to deal with the fallout of using the internet for updates.

Its a small primary = no new server for wsus anytime soon.

It'll run in a VM quite happily, or just stick it on any old hardware lying around, it's fairly undemanding. Just takes time to filter through the required updates - easiest way there is probably to install a computer fresh, let it check in with WSUS server and then approve everything it asks for and clear out anything else

I agree... in a small primary stick it on anything, including the surviving server.

 

I ran a single server environment with WSUS on it at both my previous and current schools.
