Redirected Start menu and Office 2010

We use a redirected start menu for the pupils however we installed Office 2010 and copied over the shortcuts but when a student clicks on them nothing happens in most rooms, in others it brings up a permission error. If we give the students read/write/modify permissions on the folder then it works but of course this leads to students saving things there as well.

 

Any ideas?

This is probably because the shortcuts which Office creates in the start menu are not standard .lnk shorcuts pointing to the .exe file, but a managed shortcut linked to the Windows Installer Service. To resolve this if you create a shortcut manually and point it to the require .exe files, and then copy that to your redirected start menu you should find it works with no problems.

We have redirected Start Menus and some of our shortcuts do not work. What I have found fixed this for me is Move the non-working shortcuts off the Start Menu and put them in a folder of their own:

We found that Office shortcuts at the same level as Internet Explorer or Windows Media Player in the Start Menu above did not work. We moved them into a sub folder [Microsoft Office 2010 above] and found them to be much more reliable.
