Low Cost thin Clients

Just after some advice regarding low cost thin clients. What I'm looking for is something which is easily pre-configured and can literally be plug and play.

 

Anybody any recommendations?

 

After a few messages with Cybernerd custom build could be an option but still in the early days - needs to be compatible with VMware View.

I've heard loose talk about RaspberryPi being the lowest low-cost thin client

Seen it running Win7 in fact but no idea what the server platform was

I've thought about that - I've also had it running VMware View. But the problem is finding a case and power supply which gives the user the ability to turn it off without pulling the plug. Custom design is fine but the costs rack up quickly.

Rather than putting them in a case why not put them into a false back on the desks? not like they create a lot of heat and you can just use audio and USB extensions which cost pennies?

Its not for education - its for something else i have in the pipeline

ive tried rdp on my raspberry pi and it was too slow to be used really (was when they 1st came out so newew os release may help)

Well, I've also seen a prototype ATX type switch at Preston RaspberryJam and I know the RaspberryPi community would love a little challenge like this

VMware view was perfect on Raspberry pi (using PCOIP).

 

@SimpleSi - I have a ModMyPi case here so might do some drawings and see what I can come up with. Ideally a power switch version of one of these. and then a customised version of these

 

with the power switch embedded at the back (and the SD card etc hidden).
