maestromasada Posted September 21, 2012 Posted September 21, 2012 Hi fellows, I've come to a situation where we need to restrict the concurrent logong to our staff to 1. As you know this is easily achiveable with AD, and when the users logon to the 2nd computer they are presented with this message: "Logon Refused. You have exceeded your maximun numbers of allowed logons. Please logoff from the following stations: WORKSTATION1" Do you know of any option that will present the user with a option to remotely logoff from the affected station? Thus they don't need to walk and logout manually from 1st computer I reckon there are no feature in MS that can do such thing, but thought is worth asking the gurus in edugeek
nickbro Posted September 21, 2012 Posted September 21, 2012 I don't think it's possible in AD, but Home Access Plus+'s Logon Tracker does this. https://hap.codeplex.com/
rinzwind Posted September 21, 2012 Posted September 21, 2012 (edited) How exactly is this achieved with AD? Your message 'logon refused....' has exactly one hit in Google, this topic Edited September 21, 2012 by rinzwind
FN-GM Posted September 21, 2012 Posted September 21, 2012 Not free, but this will do it - UserLock® Access security and concurrent login control for networks 1
rinzwind Posted September 22, 2012 Posted September 22, 2012 Well, we'll pick it up as feature request for a next version
glennda Posted September 22, 2012 Posted September 22, 2012 I thought there was a GPO to do this - will have a look when at home.
Jamo Posted September 22, 2012 Posted September 22, 2012 (edited) Not with AD I created RSLogonLimit which does exactly this though. Runs as a logon script and can be configured to deny logon or just inform a user that their user account is elsewhere. Also provides an admin GUI for monitoring the logons. RSLogonLimit | RS Applications PS... apologies for the site atm, my graphical skills aren't that good so the download button looks like something a child would have drawn! FAA Posted September 25, 2012 Posted September 25, 2012 Thanks for mentioning UserLock FN-GM! UserLock will allow you to: - Limit or prevent concurrent logins to your Windows network, based on user, user groups, Organizational Units or session types. - Restrict user access to your network with multiple criteria: workstations, time, business hours, and connection type. - Follow the session activity on your network in real-time and get detailed, graphical reporting - Remotely close or lock user sessions, shutdown workstations, from anywhere using the Web console As you work in an academic organization, you might wanna read our whitepaper titled "Secure and Optimize a free access network". You can also download a free, fully-functional trial from our website. And, last but not least, educational discount apply!
