dannyjay Posted September 6, 2012 Posted September 6, 2012 Hi, I've got a slight problem where a few users are showing up twice. I found this website (User in Global List with no account) with the exact problem and fix. But the fix is going right over my head. Where can I find the .xml file? Thanks in advance, DJ.
dannyjay Posted September 7, 2012 Author Posted September 7, 2012 Well it doesn't look like it's Exchange - any new user is showing in the GAL - so I think it's AD related.
dannyjay Posted September 10, 2012 Author Posted September 10, 2012 No once as soon as they are created in AD. Obviously when you add that user as a Mail Contact there is then two in GAL.
Roberto Posted September 10, 2012 Posted September 10, 2012 You're adding them as a mail contact? What Precisely are you doing when you create a new email account for a user?
dannyjay Posted September 10, 2012 Author Posted September 10, 2012 I'll try and make myself clearer - apologies. When I create a new Staff User - they are coming up in the Exchange GAL for everyone, even though I don't touch their email address. I just input their name, a password and make sure they have the right settings (P:/, .bat, Members of etc etc) - Yet they are in the GAL. Now (obviously) when I then have to create a Mail Contact for Admin purposes, they are in there twice - one from Exchange, and the other from creating them in AD. Not all users have this issue, only users created recently - but I've compared them to other, previously made Staff Users and everything is identical. The only way I've found (using a test account) to remove the AD user from GAL is to delete them completely. Obviously this isn't ideal as I have about 15 Staff with the same symptoms and no easy solution.
Roberto Posted September 10, 2012 Posted September 10, 2012 I'm sorry, I must be missing something obvious. What's the actual problem here? You're creating a mail-enabled user then you're creating a mail contact with the same details - two entries in the GAL for that user is the expected outcome. Why do you need to create a mail contact when you've already created a mail-enabled user? What is this mail contact pointing at, if not their exchange account? If you don't want the user to be mail-enabled, because you want to create them in exchange as a mail contact instead, then why are you creating them as mail enabled?
sukh Posted September 10, 2012 Posted September 10, 2012 my last post never made it, question is why are you creating mail contacs when they are already listed in the GAL, wbTa is the purpose of for the admin users?
dannyjay Posted September 11, 2012 Author Posted September 11, 2012 I haven't created mail enable users, just a network user which is showing in the GAL - unless I'm missing something obvious? Could I have copied a user that is Mail Enabled and not known? How can you check? I'm purely creating a user account (through the DC), just to login but they are coming up in the GAL. Ignore the fact I am creating a Mail Contact through Exchange, this is for Admin use and isn't the issue. The Mail Contact points to their School Email address as it is a Post 16 Centre.
sukh Posted September 11, 2012 Posted September 11, 2012 after you create new user, gonto the emc and find the user and see of theybare mail-enabled or notm
dannyjay Posted September 11, 2012 Author Posted September 11, 2012 Why would they be on EMC by just creating them in AD on the DC?
sukh Posted September 11, 2012 Posted September 11, 2012 Technically it shouldn't but I want to know if it has.
dannyjay Posted September 11, 2012 Author Posted September 11, 2012 Nope, my test account isn't showing up in EMC, but still is in the GAL.
sukh Posted September 11, 2012 Posted September 11, 2012 Have you given than test account an maail address, i.e filled out the mail attribute?
sukh Posted September 11, 2012 Posted September 11, 2012 Have you checked using adsiedit for any mail attributes?
dannyjay Posted September 24, 2012 Author Posted September 24, 2012 Never been in that Tool before - but compared it to another user who doesn't appear in twice, and there both the same.
sukh Posted September 24, 2012 Posted September 24, 2012 Can you take a dump or this duplicated user. XADM: Alternative Methods to Obtain a Dump of an Object
apeman Posted September 24, 2012 Posted September 24, 2012 Could you paste the output from adsiedit from a working account and an account that is misbehaving?? use the adsiedit on the mail server if you look at both users in the GAL do they both had the same details?? do they both have an email address listed?? Do you have any address book polices, address lists or email address polices?? i am also interested why you are also creating a mail contact as well.
