Apologies if I have posted this in the wrong part of the Forum.

Over the Summer we had two HP procurve switches put in along with new cabinets and a fiber link. All works fine apart from where we have the fiber going to a Cisco switch. That fails to pick up the network. Tried a new GBIC but to no avail. Any suggestions please - in language that's not going to faze me please!!

With Fiber its a game of elimination. You will probably find they are both trying to send the data down the same side of the cable.

You can use a phone camera to check which side the data is being sent through (most fibre leads are labled with an A and B cable). I'm guessing your using LC connectors into the switches as most HP's use LC SFP Modules (unsure on Cisco).

This diagram shows what I think might be going wrong and what you may need to do. It might require you to unclip the leads and swap the a and B sides over and clip them back again.

Bless you Glenda you are a flipping genius - worked a treat. Thanks very much. :)

I've spent ages myself doing that. But a mobile phone camera is really useful when trying to work it out.
