SYNACK Posted August 28, 2012 Posted August 28, 2012 (edited) Well, we now have two W8 tablets and a laptop out in the wild. One teacher laptop and the two tabs for junior school stuff, tweaked so that metro IE runs some flash based reading apps. Several things become apparent, there is still a way to go, folder redirection + offline files are broken again. GPP drive mapping is broken, GPP shortcuts are broken, GPO printer mapping works. The RSAT tools that are available for 8 only work under the RC. For the most part W7 drivers work and it boots quicker than 7 even with a HD rather than an SSD. Most of the GPO stuff from 7 maps right over to 8 like folder redirection, the one big config issue is the start screen which should be taken care of when RSAT for RTM is released. MSIs push, even faster than 7 and network location awareness finally seems to be quick and stable at the same time. I know I am probably one of the first to push it into usage, does anyone else have any similar experiences / hints? Edited August 28, 2012 by SYNACK
k-strider Posted August 28, 2012 Posted August 28, 2012 Ive bravely deployed it into an IT room that isn't timetabled as an ICT teaching room, and the library so i'll let you know what happens when term begins :s worst case it only takes a few hours to redeploy windows 7
k-strider Posted September 11, 2012 Posted September 11, 2012 So far so good no issues reported to me, i did a sheet and pined it in the Room on how to sign out as that wasn't immediately obvious, and how to add a printer, and how to get to your desktop. we have it in one IT room and the Library.
SYNACK Posted September 11, 2012 Author Posted September 11, 2012 (edited) I have been hearing good things about the speed now that I got offline file sync sorted, you can no longer tell it to do a full sync on logon as it no longer does it in the background but will hang the logon if there are a large amount. Serves me right for trying it with a user with 100GB of docs. Oops , when you set it to optimised sync it works fine. Still waiting for the RTM RSAT though. Edited September 11, 2012 by SYNACK
k-strider Posted September 11, 2012 Posted September 11, 2012 Useful to know I've not deployed it on any laptops yet!
joe90bass Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 GPP drive mapping is broken, I know I am probably one of the first to push it into usage, does anyone else have any similar experiences / hints? Been so busy trying to sort out getting proxy settings working via GPO that I've only just spotted that GPP drive mapping is broken.... Great...... I have 3 tablets waiting to go out to pupils to use, time to dig out the login script again....
