Thousands of PCs, laptops and servers used in the London Olympic Games will be distributed to schools after the games have finished. Econocom is managing the re-assignment of the ICT equipment as part of their Olympic Legacy commitment. The PCs come with an Acer warranty up to January 2015 and a Microsoft certificate of authenticity. They will be ready for distribution from the middle of October on a first come, first served basis

 

Example of item available: ELO 1515L (15" touch screen) £ 130 + VAT.

 

Full inventory includes: 10,000 PCs, 2,000 laptops, 1,000 servers and 1,800 touchscreens (ELO 1515L)

 

Allocation is on a first come first served basis. So far approximately 400 schools have placed orders.

We asked about 3 weeks ago - told we were far too late as there had been alot of interest but they'd let us know if anyone dropped out. Standard response I guess - no surprise we have heard nothing since.

 

Anyone applying now I imagine will have no chance unless they know someone who knows someone etc..

Hello, I am Chris Labrey, Country Manager at Econocom,in charge of reassigning the Olympic ICT equipment. The PCs and laptops are oversubscribed but there are plenty of servers and touchscreens left. There is a waiting for PCs and laptops and Acer/Econocom have promised to provide new equipment at discount to those schools that miss out.

I'd just like to say that some of the issues are due to Chris not being able to say the phrase of a name of a big city appended by a date out loud (And certainly not recently )

 

We couldn't all have the kit and some of us didn't all want them

 

But all in all, I think it was a pretty reasonable idea
