HP T150 Zero Client

We've just started our first MPS2011 deployment using Novatech i7 PCs and HP T150 clients. I didn't purchase any power supplies for the T150s, I'm now thinking I may need to!

 

The T150s are connected via USB with monitors direct connected to Graphics cards on the PCs. The first time I tried a USB Memory stick it worked fine, ever since I'm getting a power exceeded message. The T150s are running as Generic hubs as when I install the drivers for the 6200 multipoint desktop I end with a blue screen. I appreciate that USB use is limited, but had hoped that there would be enough power to run one usb flash drive per client, am I out of luck and need a power supply, or should a driver install resolve this (provided I can get around the BSOD!)?

If you are directly connecting your monitors to the host's graphics card you don't need T150's all you need is something like a D-Link 4 port powered usb hub.

The driver install is to support the graphics over usb capability of the T150 and won't help your situation I'm afraid.

Thanks, for future MPS installs I will be looking at powered hubs, though I quite like the HP ones as they are VESA mount and have mic and headphone inputs which as one install is for languages will be useful

I agree but to just use the T150's as hubs/audio devices is overkill.

 

Have you tested the audio is working? May need a driver for that.

 

I use the T200's they support a usb or ethernet conmection to the host.

Yep, audio is working. And agree they're overkill, but as it's all new to me and I wasn't 100% how USB hubs and audio would work with MPS I decided to stick with a known solution. Now I have more of an understanding I will look at (cheaper) alternative's in the future

Agreed you picked a sensible path with what you knew however I don't remember seeing any posts prior to your implementation with specs etc... as we could have advised you at that point several people on here have deployed MPS solutions.

True, I could (or should!) have posted, however I did read up on all the posts and MS info, Youtube videos, etc, and with the requirement for audio decided to go the T150 route. I know I could have done USB headsets, but at least with the T150 the pupils can uses their own headphones.
