Backup Exec 2012 and VMWare Backups

Hi,

 

We have just installed brand new servers running VMware. There are 3 ESXi hosts.

 

We have installed backup exec 2012 which I hate but I was wondering if anyone could tell me how I can achieve this backup strategy?

 

On previous versions of BE using agent based backups on physical servers we would do full weekly backups to disk and incrementals every weekday.

 

We would also take 2 servers off our weekly disk backups each week to put those 2 onto tape.

 

Is there anyway to automate this process because I think in the past the senior technician would deselect the servers ready to go onto tape from the disk scheule on a Friday and create a new job to tape for those 2 servers.

 

If anyone could tell me their strategies that would be fantastic.

Personally I have found BE 2012 a pita for anything! It seems Symantec have ruined it!

 

Anyway - I think setup the jobs to disk and then once the backup set is on the disk you can choose to replicate to tape.

 

One nice thing they have included is that if you have a server using the agent (as in physical) you can backup to disk and make a VM (which will make a vm of your physical server after backup.)
