Bulk Find & Relace Shortcuts

Hi,

 

All our staff have redirected desktops to a folder in there home area. Is is so they can still have shortcuts on there and that any files they do put there will be backed up.

 

Anyway we have now finished a Office 2010 rollout, i was wondering if anyone has a script or a program that will allow me to specify the old shortcut and to specify a new one to replace it with please? Its to avoid having dead office links on the desktop.

How about do a delete for a shortcut based on name through GPP and then do another one under it to create? That's what I do ...

Because that would make it compulsory and we want users to have a choice. Does GPP play well with redirected desktops?

As long as the users have write access it should work fine as it runs like a windows scripting operation.

Take a look at Working with Shortcuts in Windows PowerShell (the bit about stale shortcuts). You will need to find every single shortcut on your profile share(s) and inspect them - since you have no idea what the users will have called/renamed the shortcuts. This may take some time!

 

Any shortcuts you do find will then need to be adjusted to have the new path or deleted and a new shortcut copied there.
