Recommended PDAs

Looking to get some PDAs very soon and would like some recommendations.

 

They(!) are looking for:

Handwriting recognition with pen (I know 99.9% do this but some dont!

Usual Diary/Callender/Outlook syncronisation

802.11g Wireless support (any pre-n stuff on the horizon?)

Decent Warranty Support (1 Year I guess is the norm, but any with 3 Year would be good)

Terminal Services support - will be looking to use sims/pars(registration) on them at a later date.

Reasonably fast - dont want it slowing down when they do 2 or 3 things at once - im sure cost wont be too much of an issue.

 

Im relatively sure most PDAs provide what is being asked but Im after personal opinions and experience of particular models.

I LOVE iPAQs and dislike Dells - the build quality of HP kit is amazing and the quality of the Dells is OK. Admitedly, you get what you pay for.

 

You'll be hard pushed to find 802.11g on a PDA but there's little need. Any networked PocketPC will run Terminal Services (or Citrix ) - Outlook synchronisation is also pretty much standard (although PocketPC devices have the native support for synchronisation with Exchange 2003).

when you say hard pushed for 802.11g are you saying majority are 802.11b for terminal services?

The 802.11g stuff i've seen for PDAs is expensive and in my experience not really needed! Linksys do a card, i'm sure there are others too.

 

I've got a Dell Axim x50v with the native 3.7" 480 x 640 screen. It's lovely, bluetooth and 802.11b built in, SD and CF.

 

It has a TS client already installed and work's flawlessly over 802.11b (The 480 x 640 makes a huge difference), I've even used TS over 3G by bluetoothing to my phone and connection over the Orange 3G network.

 

They've just released the x51v which has Windows Mobile 5.0 and a bigger ROM, not sure if thing's are compatable with WM5.0 yet though.

What I mean is you won't find 802.11g - TS is fine over 802.11b

 

Try speaking to Stuart at 1st Technologies (01254 878800) - he can sometime get hold of quanities of these things 'nearly-new' for a fraction of the retail price.
