PPTP (MMPE) Connection Issues relating to IRC's

I'm using a VPN that is using PPTP (MMPE) and it seems that on all Irc servers, they are refusing the connection, or it simply times out after about 15 secs of trying to connect, i'm tried using different IRC clients, but none seem to work.

Yes, it usually does, and they haven't changed any settings that I can see, but it doesn't allow me to connect to ANY IRC servers, i've tried about 30 different ones.

Can we rule out the VPN directly and from a host inside their network?

 

Try via telnet some 'common' and less common IRC ports on a well known network such as:

 

Try the usual 6667, but also try 8000 on 140.211.167.98 (niven.freenode.net) and see if you have any joy with that.

I'm not sure if we can rule on the VPN directly, it seems that this particular VPN service (securitykiss.com) is able to do so.

(does port 8000 work if you try from your client, being slightly less common than 6667?)

Used port 8000 and 6667, also tried both with MMPE (Encryption) and Non-encrytped, also tried another 3 or 4 irc servers, I use the free service.

Hm, I'm not sure if the free service supports auxiliary services like IRC.

 

SecurityKISS - Free VPN Service Shows that the free service basically blocks most stuff other than browsing etc.

 

EDIT: If you are trying to connect to your own IRC network you could set up a firewall rule to redirect port 80 on the IRC server IP to 6667 so that will still hit it on a NAT. (I wouldn't recommend running the irc server as root to bind directly to port 80 though!)

Is there some other VPN service I can use that is similar to SecurityKiss? That uses PPTP with or with MMPE???
