[sims] Problems installing a new SIMS.net server

I am installing a new SIMS.net server as a test, I am using the Spring 2012 setups folder to install from but I keeping getting the same problem every time.

 

Server 2008 R2 64bit

Installed SQL Express 2008 R2

 

Run Simsinst

The configure SIMS.net windows pops up asking me to change the sysman password, I enter in the password I want and it displays the error "cannot find table 15"

 

Anyone know what I am doing wrong as it's annoying me now, I literally want t install the server and restore a backup using the sims system manager restore tool, if that's possible.

Found an article on CapitaES, need to copy the Autumn 2011 setup files first then extract the Spring 2012 Setup files over them, run DBUpgrade and it should work.

I think i got that error when i had the wrong set of setup files. The best thing to do is not use a setups folder, but download the installable release ISO from SupportNet. Or is that where you got the setups folder from?

 

It's possible the setups folder has some duff files in there. During the Autumn multiple re-release saga, some of the updates files couldn't be further upgraded from, and thus, though your system may work, there could be a duff file in the folder.

 

If you are using a clean set of files, you must make sure for a clean install, it's from an installable release, not just from the upgrade ISO.

You shouldn't use a blank database, restore your existing. Using the blank should only be used for new schools. Testing on a blank database is pointless, it'll always work - well it won't because it's too blanky blank blank.

Now the problem I have is that the internal backup taken from the live server whilst in Sims will not restore, or even show up in the backup list, is the internal backup designed to show up or is not not used in that way? Edited July 10, 2012 by Disease

The System Manager function for backups is basically dead. Use DBattach, it'll then go into your ..\MSSQL\Backup folder.

i normally take a backup using SQL management studio, and then restore using dbattach. Works quick and easy every time. So long as the version you backed up and the version you're installing to are the same.
