CCTV IP Camera Glare

Hi

 

Am currently looking at putting in some IP Cameras for IT classrooms to stop the little darlings try to penetrate the usb ports with pens etc.

 

I bought a couple of trendnet POE dome cameras a while back, and their okay but the major problem I have is from window glare, if the blinds are up then the camera is pretty much useless.?

 

any suggestions of cameras that won't have this problem or maybe some kind of filter i can try?

You need cameras that have a wide dynamic range, at least that's what my CCTV guy always tells me.

Is it glare or are they overexposing the scene? The simplest way to tell is that with glare, you'll get a streak of white across the picture or "orbs" of light but with overexposure, bright parts of the entire scene will be completely white.

 

If it's glare, then I'd have thought you could buy cameras with anti-glare glass domes, or alternatively on a traditional camera (i.e. domeless) attach a lens hood.

 

If it's overexposure, then there's really nothing you can do other than replace the cameras... you might be able to get an ND (Neutral Density) filter to fit the dome but then when the blinds are closed, the scene will be too dark to see anything so you're back to square one...

 

I'd recommend buying better cameras!
