text message to email

We have a bullying email address set up here so that if a kids feel uncomfortable about another child etc they can email the bullying helpline where they can then be given assistance. Been asked to look into the possibility of being able to send SMS messages to the email? So kids can for example text 65874 or some other number about an incident and it would appear in a mailbox or something. However i no idea where to start.. you guys got any ideas?

it might just be my phone but i just put my email address instead of a phone number and it sent it and just got the email

Then you'll need to look into getting a premium number purchased, which won't work out the cheapest

 

Edit - As an example http://www.smsshortcodes.co.uk/purchase-shared-shortcodes.htm

 

This is "shared" shortcodes, e.g. You might have 12345BULLY which starts at £400 annually from that company.

 

If they sent to 12345 that's not you though, it's another company. If you want just a 5 digit number works out a lot more normally.

 

Then it goes back to who is paying for the texts, are they being charged back to you? or is it the person texting?

I think there is a module for FreePBX to accept SMS and forward to email.

 

Alternative is look at Google Voice but it's coming in the future

 

EDIT: after googling it appears it's in the UK although website says us only

You can have a shortcode and keyword (including a keyword of their choice for free) or

a virtual mobile number for £10 a month.

I believe they make their money from you sending texts out through their gateway (the other way to what you want).
