[sims] Spreadsheet timetable for several students

Is there a way of producing a selection timetable for a mis-matched set of students in SIMs?

I can't find anyone asking the question here or on Support Net, so I'm beginning to woonder if it's obvious and I'm just being thick/blind.

Or am I the only one who wants to see where Fred and Jas and Gina are throughout the week?

The chooser gives you a list of all pupils on roll and you can just pick the ones to print or save out to disc.

It's not selecting the students that's the problem, it's getting the output spreadsheet style: periods along the top and a row for each pupil (or vice versa).

Ah. I don't know a way of doing that in SIMS directly - I would normally export into Excel and do some shuffling to get that format.

go to reports > student list > general student list.

 

On the right hand side "select data area" change the top drop down box to a"academic" information. change the second dropdown box to "timetable".

You can then drag and drop each period onto your report to the left or use the "all periods" option to add them all at once.

 

Use the filter and sort buttons at the top to change the selection of students. Then use the export button to move the data to excel.

 

Think that will give you what you want.

Thank you: that's a lot better! Not exactly what I want of course - the data for each student is spread across three rows in excel, but I can fix that.

 

I've never used Student Lists, so didn't realise they were this flexible. In fact, I'm not sure any of my colleagues use it for more than printing off the default lists ...

just came in a couple of releases ago i think, i've found it very useful for all kinds of quick little jobs. Much quicker than designing custom reports every time for simple jobs.

Just wish the catalog of fields was a bit more complete, seems a bit like half a job from capita but i'm sure they'll be expanding on what you can pull into this type of report in future.

I think it came in when T4 was being phased out: I know the people that do use it here are those who would have used Nova for printing class lists in the past. Since I'd already 'done' reporting training by then, and seldom needed individual class lists, no-one showed me and I didn't play.

I expect that Capita's response to a request for more choices will be that they're all available in Discover: bad luck for those of us who prefer tables to fancy charts (or have clunky machines). Cynical? Me? never.
