Renew of EES - Year 2 - Why is it so difficult

We have a SQL license on our agreement.

 

Part number 228-09536 = SQLSvrStd ALNG LicSAPk OLV E 1Y Acdmc AP 1 Proc. This one is based on physical processors in the machine.

 

I am been told i need this part number again for SQL2008 / SQL2012 but others are saying that i need:

 

Part number: 7NQ-00050 = SQLSvrStd ALNG LicSAPk OLV 2Lic E 1Y Acdmc AP CoreLic. This one is based on the ammount of cores on the processor.

 

I understand that this is the new license but some suppliers are saying that need this one and others are saying that i need to keep the original one (228-09536). I need the original one as i cannot

 

The server i am running SQL on is the SIMS server which has 1x Quad Core processor, so i need 4 of the above licenses (7NQ-00050).

 

Can someone please tell me which one i would need, i am getting so many mixed messages regarding this.

 

So far i have had:

 

1x 7NQ-00050

2x 7NQ-00050

1x 228-09536

2x 228-09538

 

Can anyone help.

Ok, Ive found out that because i have the Software Assurance Pack i can keep my existing license for the 1 processor license. Only if i was to renew my licenses or be a new customer to EES woudl i need to purchase the core pack of which they sell them in pairs.

Hello, just seen your thread. I have used a company for 7 years now, no one has been better for help & quotes for licensing. I can send info if you require.

 

I didnt realise EES was 7 years old?

 

Maybe we missed a trick previous to last year!

Apologies, the OP was talking specifically about EES, not licensing in general.

Im still getting mixed messages from software companies, why can't software companies understand what needs to be done with regards to licenses. Surely they all have had the same information.

228-09538 is the educational license...

228-09538 is the educational license...

 

228-09536 is now obsolete so that is incorrect. It may have been right before April but it's not now. It depends on your situation. Like i always say, it's down to the account manager more than who you use and EES can be very simple but it can also be very confusing.

 

Up to you but if you PM or email me your details, i'll work with your account manager to make sure it's 100% correct.
