Moodle - RSS feeds to update automatically

Hi Guys,

 

We are using moodle 1.9 here and have RSS feeds on a couple of pages. E.g. RSS feed of the front page posts. These are then posted onto the school website and on digital signage around the school.

 

The issue is that to get the RSS feed to update on the website we have to run the cron script manually to get it to update.

 

Is there anyway this can be automated?

We run this in a batch file as a scheduled task to run every hour.

 

"C:\Program Files (x86)\PHP\v5.3\php.exe" -d memory_limit=256M D:\IIS\VLE\Public-Data\Sandbox\admin\cron.php

Showing how much of a beginner i am. Can anyone show me quickly what the batch file would need to contain?

 

1. File called something like moodleCron.bat

2. Then just paste the above and change the path into the file and run it? or does it need something else?

That is pretty much it. Is your host server running Windows?

Yes run it on your sevrer then. Change the path to php.exe and the location of cron.php.

 

If you first run it manually you will see it do its thing. Once it works running manually then set it as a scheduled task.

Hi I just tried running it and get a php.exe - Entry Point Not Found "The procedure entry point php_set_error_handling could not be located in the dynamic link library php5.dll"

Hi Got it to run

 

When running it through the web browser it only takes about 10 seconds. When running this batch file it takes a lot longer. Is this normal? Is there a way to get the command window to close automatically? I take it, it should keep scrolling down the window interspersed with

If your running it from a batch file it should just close. I am assume you ran it in the command prompt?

I just double clicked it and it opened command prompt :S
