Win7 Default image creation

Hi Guys

 

 

i have been busy creating my default image for wds deployment, installaing all my apps, security, etc

 

i also include the classic start menu, becuase it looks alot more tidy than win7 default,

 

 

but when i deploy this image all the start menu settings are lost, and it reverts back to the default, i have set the gpo to enforce this.

 

i read somewhere that this has been dropped by microsoft

 

 

is their anyway around this?

depends on your sysprep file i suspect but that sort of customisation tends to be stripped out when you sysprep iirc at leasr by default

Are you setting up your machine in 'Audit' mode? If not, you should be, if you are then you need to add the CopyProfile=True command to your unattend.xml file. Read here for more:

Even with Copyprofile sysprep still nukes various parts of the profile, Start Menu and Taskbar being one of them as far as I can tell...

I'm guessing the same stupidity of MS default, non-customisable settings might also apply to your classic menu as well...

there are that many sysprep option some that can conflict im not sure thats achievable tbh

To my knowledge, there isn't a GPO that sets Windows 7's Start Menu to the Classic Start Menu. I don't think you can do it with Vista either, but you can with XP.

Why can't your users just adapt to the new Start Menu? If they use Windows 7 at home, they'll know how it already works.

id say the win7 start menu looks tidier than old style as its all self contained no boxes fanning out coevring the entire screen and sliding the mouse over to the right until you get near the side of the screen when it stacks it

I personally don't mind it, but over time users will adapt with the right help and training (as required). The biggest query I have is with users migrating from Word 2003 to Word 2010. The layout is completely different, but all options and functions are there.

 

I've seen add-ons that allow you to have the Word drop down menus as before (at a cost), but there comes a point where users need to adapt and move with the times.
