Not got time tonight to play as in middle of OFSTED prep and knackered but everyone else should give it a go.

 

It'll read in existing 1.4 projects (and save them again but haven't tried that) - supposedly got webcam motion detect and certainly got ability to make your own blocks.

 

Pass this on to your ICT teachers (or even the geeky non-ICT teachers)

All looked good apart from the damn chat/online/cloud part that seems to have to be in every new bit of software. It's probably the worst thing to have in SEBD/PRU environments! Hopefully it's something that can be crippled.

a bit of a sidetrack, but our ICT teachers will be using Educator Resources | MIT App Inventor alongside scratch next year

What are the system requirements for Scratch 2.0?

Scratch 2.0 will work in any web browser that supports Adobe Flash Player 10 or later. Most web browsers support Flash, and nearly all of them already have the Flash Player 10 installed.

 

Why is Scratch 2.0 based on Flash?

Flash allows us to make Scratch available to as many people as possible without requiring them to install anything. Although we seriously considered several other technologies, Flash has the best combination of features, performance, and browser penetration right now.

 

Will Scratch 2.0 work on my iPhone/iPad?

Unfortunately, no. The Apple iPhone family (iPhone, iPad, iPod touch) does not currently support the Flash Player.

Scratch has always been a lot about the chat and online discussions. (And its quite a good place to lets kids chat on a forum as its about as safe as you can get being moderated by MIT and the community)

SEBD : social, emotional, behavioural difficulties.

PRU: pupil referral unit.

 

The types of schools I look after, both very challenging. Unfortunately we have to nail down every bit of software that has any collaboration/chat/messaging system otherwise it just gets abused. Even our student email systems are closed internal systems which are very heavily logged.
