Linking Moodle and CMIS - how possible is it?

Hi,

 

I've been looking at trying Moodle in the hopes of pitching it to management as an alternative to the custom built job they're looking at from some local company. Obviously integration with CMIS would be a huge plus but I have no idea how to go about it.

 

I've seen posts where people claim to have had some success with it but nobody actually says how. Is there a tutorial somewhere that I've missed?

We did this by extracting data from CMIS/AD with a PHP script - the idea was to create every AD user in moodle first, then create the 'courses' as teaching groups, then assign the kids and staff to the courses.

We pull data out of SIMS into a CVS. Then retool this for AD and import it there. Then Moodle talks to AD using LDAP. Now I know your not using SIMS but I'm sure the same procedure would work.

What data are you putting in to AD? Ideally what we'd like to be able to do is automate pulling through details of classes, their teachers, and the students in those classes.

 

At a push I can probably see somebody putting in classes and maybe their teachers manually, but I don't think anybody is going to sit down and allocate classes to users manually. Also I don't think we could trust the students to enrol in their own classes.

We don't do auto enrollment over LDAP. We just use enrollment keys.

Been lurking for a couple of weeks now but though I had better post this one as it is something I have been trying to do for a while now. This helpful chap has developed a block that will link between Moodle and CMIS. Looks very useful although have not tried it on our install yet. Will be testing later so I'll post back on how successful it was. The link below has some screen casts show the capability's.
