Elonex PCs with broken UUID

I have a bunch of Elonex PCs with the UUID set to zero. Thus they can't be centrally managed by Ghost (they all appear as the same PC). Is there any way to override or reset system UUIDs?

Hi Geoff - which version of Ghost are you using? I have the latest Ghost Solution Suite 2.0, and this is a known problem to Symantec - however, it was fixed in the last LiveUpdate Update (?!)

If you are lucky, you can change these in the BIOS, slightly less lucky would be if Elonex provides a utility to change them. Otherwise you are going to have to get creative... I suspect that Linux might let you write to a proc device which would change this.

I looked in the Bios. There doesn't seem to be any way to set the ID there. I'll check Elonex's support site and see if they have a tool for this.

Well Elonex seem to of removed the entire support/downloads section of their site. I just get redirected to a page listing various 'for pay' support options.

 

So I had another look at these machines and found out that they use a MSI MS-6390.

There's no info on how to set the DMI up though.

Now I've never used ghost this way before, but when ris comes across a machine with all zeros it looks at the mac address.

 

Maybe ghost does the same.

I've had similar problems on other well known makes of PC. Despite scouring the net, I've always ended up getting a floppy disk from the makers tech support.

 

I don't know if this is any use.
