Dektop redirection issue

In the past I was able to successfully setup Desktop redirection for certain OU's. I had the desktop being redirected to a subfolder in the user home drive. It seems that i am no longer able to do this.

In the first image you can see one of the previously configured ou's

in the second image you can see what happens when trying to configure a new OU.

Any thoughts?

There is a fullstop in the profile settings part of the path. Also that seems to be spelt wrong

What do you mean?? in the users home folder i want it to create the folder .profileSettigns, i know it is spelled wrong, just an example of the error, and then put the Desktop folder in that subfolder. Frustrating that this has worked in the past...

ok, so i guess you can create a folder starting with a full stop using the command line...not really sure how/why GPMC let me do it before, but in any case the dot is not the issue, i get the same message even if i do \\server\users$\%USERNAME%\a\Desktop it is the %USERNAME% it does not like. thanks for the response

Have you tried "Redirect to the following location" with that path instead? I don't think it's valid for the root path option.

I assume that would work, but in the past i used the root path as seen in the first post. Thanks

hmm. I can't remember if i used that or not but I have check on my home server because I think it might be a Windows Update that restricted that setting.When I try on a different server it it seem to have the same thing because you can have sub folders but soon as you environment path like %Username% it won't like it. In my example in the quote down bellow already includes the username for the setting you chose.

The example I see down bellow when I type when using "Create Folder For each user under the root path"

\\server\Folder

For user clair, this folder will be redirected to:

\\server\Folder\Clair\Desktop

Try "Redirect to the following location"

UPDATE!. I figured out your problem.

In order to do this -> "\\server\users$\%USERNAME%\a\Desktop" you must use the option "Redirect to the following location". After you apply it the redirecting part will work. I found when I applied, close it and open it up it jumps back to "Create Folder For each user under the root path" but shorten to "\\server\users$\" in the textbox but down the bottom gives the full path for example "\\server\users$\Clair\a\Desktop"

 

I don't know why It does that but I have tested myself and it works. FYI I have also tried it with .profilesettings and it works with a dot.
