netadmin Posted May 26, 2007 Posted May 26, 2007 I am trying to setup an internet content filter on VMWare server. I tried using the VMWare dansguardian/squid appliance, but internet explorer keeps saying cannot connect. Does anyone know of a linux distribution internet filter that can be installed? I only have one NIC card in the machine, and a router upstream of the server. Eventually, it will need to be configured to get the username from the domain login. Ideally a free program would be best. Thanks for any advice.
djm968 Posted May 29, 2007 Posted May 29, 2007 Have a look at the cache.log file in /var/log/squid Are there any errors?
netadmin Posted May 29, 2007 Author Posted May 29, 2007 Thanks for the help. I looked at VMware some more today--it turns out the networking was not setup correctly. I did find a spare PC today, so I'll probably just use that instead. Thanks again though.
tom_newton Posted May 30, 2007 Posted May 30, 2007 Our SchoolGuardian firewall/filter, and, indeed, all SmoothWall products are supported on VMWare, and include the latest VM tools. It's actually really handy for us as well - our tech support guys get to have every version of every product we have ever released on one PC
