Recommend me a PROJECTOR please!

Hello All,

 

We have a mixture of Hitachi and Epson projectorS. 1 or 2 are very old and have packed up.

 

Can anyone recommend me a projector for use with an interactive Smart board please?

it all depends - what distance the projector is from the board - how big the board is. My vote is currently with the Casio Range of LED projectors but it some cases it just doesn't work.

Likewise we are on the Casio LEDs: 5 year warranty, no bulb to change and no filters to clean (though it does benefit from dusting!)

 

There's no ultra short throw if you need to mount it on a boom though

Benq MS500+ is looking a nice deal atm, trying to find some downsides to them before buying a few. 2700 lumens, 3 year warranty, decent lamp life (6000 hours in economy mode) and replacement lamps are only around £100.

Its a standard size Smart board. The project will need to go into the existing ceiling mount and is about 4 feet away from board.

You'll be fine with the Casio then... you may have to do a little adaptation to the mount... we use a drill to get new holes, some use a piece of chipboard

Nope, there seems to be one per model I find - not even one per manufacturer. Basically they put them wherever they feel like it I've found.

Yes they are ceiling mountable. If you really can afford them/plan long term then the Casio's really are worth their weight in gold (which is substantial!)

Not had any yet to see what they're actually like though, would also like to know if anyone has some experience.

 

Also you often need to be careful of where the lens is - if it's on the other side of the projector to the old ones then it will lead to funny picture skews. Not always the end of the world, we don't really care if the picture isn't perfect as long as it's usable, but on interactive boards it might be a tad more important. Throw distance will always be amusing too - always worth checking how adjustable they are.

We use Casio XJ-A130s in 4 our of 5 of our classrooms, looking to get another to use as our portable project too. We're really pleased with them and the teachers find it much easier to just wipe the edges with a cloth to clean. The only problem I had with them is that one of them came with a duff remote and Casio wanted us to send the whole projector back, which just wasn't an option for us.

 

They're a lot clearer and brighter than our previous Mitsubishis (could have just been age though...) and I mounted them to our existing adjustable mounts fine, I just had to buy some smaller screws and washers to use them, ~7ft from the whiteboards.
