One of my work collegues has recently purchased an iPad3, does anyone know what port the speech recognition relies on to talk to the apple server to get the information? as when using an internet connection through a 3G dongle it works fine, when going through the schools internet it does not seem to work

From what I have seen so far it is over 443, but relies on a valid connection to Apple's certificate services ... if you can access the Apple Store then this should verify that bit. I am not sure how different it is to the full blown Siri, but there is already some advice out there about Siri and firewalls (over 443, uses ACE and not GET, if you have SSL intercept then turn it off, etc)
