I suspect that it's not their efforts are not being recognised, but rather the state of the current curriculum makes things appear uninspiring. It's a bit like home economics (or whatever it's called this year) purely teaching kids to make beans on toast each and every year, then one year someone points out that omlettes and other dishes are easy to make as well and they will then be taught. It makes everything before seem, well, dull.
